Queen Seon Deok Episode 6 Recap

As Deok Man goes around the city asking for Munno’s whereabouts, she heard someone talking about Munno. She immediately went to the man named Ju Bang who is dressed up like a holy man or monk.

In her eagerness to get to Munno, she was willing to do anything to learn of Munno’s whereaboutTo cut the long story short, she was about to be conned by Ju Bang and his accomplice Go Do.

 

Deok Man was very thankful to Ju Bang and even went to serve him while eating in a restaurant. However, it was cut short by the arrival of a young group of Hwarang. The leader of the group, Kim Yu Shin confronted Ju Bang. Apparently, Ju Bang stole a gold pendant or ornament that was given to him by his father, Kim Su Hyeon.

Deok Man saw them and argued with the young Hwarang and reprimanded them for not being respectful of a holy man. Unknowingly to Deok Man Ju Bang already slipped in her pocket the stolen gold pendant. Ju Bang was so confident now that they will not find it on him and saw challenge the group to make a search. As expected, they did not find anything from him.

Anyway, Deok Man and Ju Bang went on to discuss where to find Munno. He gave her instructions on where to go and deliver a message to a man name Seolji from whom she will get further instructions. In exchange to the info, she gave him a gold pendant. So even if, he was not able to retrieve the gold pendant/ornament he took from the young Hwarang Kim Yu Shin, the gold pendant Deok Man gave him is much better.

Back in Mi Shil’s camp, both her and Seol Won Rang planned a series of actions to eliminate who they all think conspiring against them. Apparently, the Manno City is being governed by Kim Seo Hyeon, the same man who eloped with Princess Manmyeong who is also one of those loyal to the King.

Seol Won Rang sent out a troop to get those rebellious refugees which are to staying in Manno City so they can put Kim Su Hyeon to shame and at the same time sent out a group to kill Munno and the rest of the monks at the temple.

They can easily ask permission from the King since after Princess Cheonmyeong left the Palace, he is more interested in games and drinking. And as she expected, the King gave his permission and was angry at her for interrupting his activities.

Seol Won Rang was not convinced yet that it is time for their son Bo Jong to be given the task of eliminating Munno. He told Mi Shil that he is still young but she was able to convince him that their son is old and strong enough to do it as she reminded her that Seol Won Rang was of the same age when he join her group. She even told him that she sees herself in Bo Jong.

 

Ha Jong, Mi Shil’s other son was complaining to his father that Mi Shil did not gave him the task of killing Munno. He was expecting his mother to entrust him to kill Munno and at the same time get rid of the refugees. His father explained to him that Mi Shil will not dare put him in the harm’s way because of their bloodline and ranks. Since the King opened the possibility that those in their status can be appointed as heirs to the throne as what happened to Kim Yong Su before.

 

Bo Jong on the other hand was not pleased of the task at hand that was given to him because it is the revered Munno that was ordered to be killed. He knew that most of the Hwarangs will not approve of it. He told his son that he must be careful of this task and must only ask those who are loyal to him. Bo Jong was questioning his father’s actions. Seol Won Rang told her son that he must learn to live a life of failures from now and endure it until Mi Shil succeeds.

So, the plan is to take advantage of the situation. Since they got King’s approval of a troop movement,  they can lower Kim Su Hyeon’s reputation by getting rid of the refugees/brigands or whatever you call them, it will make Kim Su Hyeon an imbecile. Su Hyeon is Yu Shin’s father who is another influential person and an ally of the King who he wants to bring over to the royal court. At the same, kill Munno who is reportedly staying in one of the temples there. They all believe that they are conspiring something against Mi Shil.

Mi Shil’s brother, Mi Saeng asked her who she favors more, Bojong and Seol Won Rang or Hae Jong and Sejong. She said that in her experience, someone who is chosen by destiny and the heaven’s luck will be the one just what happened to her so she will have to wait and see.

Princess Cheonmyeong departs from the temple dressed up as a monk with some guards provided by her brother in law. When they were boarding a ferry and was about to leave, Deok Man came running and jump in the boat. Naturally the guard  threw her out of the boat. During the scuffle, some of the rebels/refugees/pirates came and tried killing them off. They were able to escape but they lost the boat. The guards decided to tie up Deok Man as she they believe to cause the trouble. Before the were able to leave and move on, more of the bad people arrived and so more fighting and eventually only two remain alive — the twins.

As they were both being chased in the forest, they reached a place with red markers. The bad guys stopped when they saw the red markers. Those two thought everything will be okay from then on but they did not notice that they were being watched.

The two argued then reached an agreement. The princess paid Deok Man with a ring to be her protector until they reach their destination. She still does not know that she’s a girl and Deok man on the other hand does not know that she’s a princess. When the princess was to fall down while waking, Deok Man tried catching her but landed on her so there was body contact which made the princess angry. She reprimanded Deok Man that she cannot touch her and so when  a snake went around Princess Cheonmyeong’s foot and  she demanded the snake be removed from her foot, Deok Man does not want to do it. When the princess, due to habit, ordered her to remove it, Deok Man was suspicious if she was really a monk or nun. She even returned the ring saying she does not want anything to do with her.

Deok Man told her that if she her nicely and politely she might remove it. The princess was shaking and so she did what Deok Man asked of her and the latter removed the snake. She even told the princess that it was not even poisonous. The princess then slapped her in the face and Deok Man wanted to punch her back but seeing the Princess in tears she did not do so. They decided to move on in separate paths and opposite directions.

It was too late when Deok Man saw the princess walking inside a trap. She tried telling her and saving her but both of them ended up in a net.

The bad guys(who turn out to be the refugees/rebels/migrants)  who caught them delivered them to their leader, Seolji. When Deok Man heard of the name, she was so happy as she was instructed by Ju Bang to give him a message.

 The message says that Ju Bang is apologizing for his past actions and that the boy, meaning Deok Man is his gift or act or repentance to them. Apparently, Ju Bang swindled the villages of their possessions claiming that he can give them rain. Anyway, they have decided to sell the two to Chinese tradesman as slaves. The twins then were imprisoned. Deok Man tried to argue with them saying that she was tricked as well. The villagers do not care since they did already sell their own children for survival and it’s easier to sell someone they do not know. 

When Seolji saw the contents of the bag that Deok man was carrying, he only saw books and nothing of value or anything important.

Later, Deok Man told them that she can give them rain and that attracted their attention. She told them that she since she grew in the desert and there is no water in the desert but they managed to survive because they know how to make it rain. At first no one wants to believe her since they think that she is just trying to save herself but she argues that she can control fire.

She then asked for the magnifying glass that she used to burn the tea blocks in the first episode. She then took one of the villagers hand and with the help of the sunlight she then was able to scorch the villagers skin. Seolji gave her three days to produce rain and if he cannot then they will be executed.

The princess knew that it is quite an impossible thing to do since she is aware that it is only a magnifying glass but Deok Man told her that at least they were given three more days. A lot of things can happen in three days.

So for three days, Deok Man went on praying and bowing to an altar so the Heavens will bless them with rain. The princess told her to stop and rest for a while as she can see that she is tired from the bowing and praying. She even gave her something to suck so she can regain her health. On the dreaded third day, there was still no rain. Deok man tried digging but the villagers said they tried that but still they cannot find water.

Seolji stopped her but she continued to dig saying that she don’ want to stop since stopping means death for her. She said that she can’t die since she still needs to find Munno because she needs to ask him something very important. The princess was surprised that Deok Man wants to find Munno. Deok man scream, cried, more like wailed for so long that Seolji and the villagers decided to free her but the princess is to be sold as planned.

So when Deok Man was preparing to leave, Cheonmyeong beg her to bring her along and told her that she knows where Munno is but Deok Man left her in prison.

The villagers then decided to sell the princess off. She then argued with them saying that id they contact the palace, they will be rewarded for it. She told them that she is the Shilla’s one and only princess but no one believes her. As they were dragging her out, the much awaited rain fell from the Heavens while Ha Jong and some of the Shilla troops arrived and attack the place.

During the commotion, the princess was about to killed with an arrow but Deok Man was able to save her. The princess was so surprised that Deok man came back for her. Then they ran as fast as they could with soldiers chasing after them.

They were running at a higher ground but Princess Cheonmyeong slipped with Deok Man tumbling over and their pursuers thought that they died from the fall.

The princess was the first to get up and found Deok Man hanging by a root or weed or something in a nearby waterfalls. The princess took a rope from Deok Man’s backpack and tried pulling her up to the point that her hands were bleeding already.

 The story of Queen Seon Deok is very addictive. For a person like me who does not want drama with so many episodes, it is so surprising that I am getting more fascinated with it. I still cringe at the idea of it having 50 episodes but it is like a book that I cannot put down.

I am not saying that the whole series is great since I find so many loopholes in it for example, the rain thing. How is it that there is a nearby waterfalls if they were experiencing drought then there were shooting arrows with fire when it is supposed to be raining so hard. It is a little bit distracting for those who are a little bit more observant but the story is still fascinating and I love the actors here. Hopefully when we see their adult versions, they will be as cute and good as their younger counterparts.
