Deok Man was not able to save her mother from the quicksand. Her mother’s last instruction was for her to escape from Chil Suk but before she can do anything there was a sandstorm.
Next thing she knew was that she woke up covered in sand. She tried finding So Hwa but it was to no avail. Chil Suk was nowhere to be found either so we don’t know if he died or swept somewhere else.
Deok Man continued to dig and dig hoping against hope that she’ll find her mother until she fainted from exhaustion. Cartan and the other merchants were able to find her unconscious body in the desert.
Meanwhile back in the Royal Palace, Princess Cheonmyeong had a dream or more like a premonition of what will happen to her husband, Kim Yong Su. Since her father, the present King has already decided to make him his heir to the throne, Mi Shil’s camp was bent on preventing that to happen.
They argued that he is not fit to lead for several reasons and one of them is that he does not have any achievements at all and during those times one of the ways to be eligible to the eyes of the people is for him to lead the army for a war or battle to victory.
The Council of Ministers lambasted him and so Kim Yong Su told them that he will retake the Mosan Fortress. Everyone was surprised by this declaration so they were speechless by it.
Naturally, Kim Yong Su’s brother and wife were against it since it is quite hard to retake the fortress plus it could end his life. Princess Cheonmyeong begged her husband not to do anything about it. She said that she is ready to live a simple life with her husband even if the court does not recognize her ranking and status. She just does not want to have a repeat on what happened to her three dead younger brothers.
Kim Yong Su is bent on actively supporting the King. He feels that the King needs someone he can rely on to fulfill his dreams for the people.
In Mi shil’s camp, one of her sons is anxious and annoyed because of the possibility that Kim Yong Su might come back victorious even if the chances are quite little. Even Mi Shil’s brother was surprised that she is not questioning the King’s decision to appoint Kim Yong Su as the Crown Prince.
Mi Shil explained that she welcome the King’s move since he is telling them that those not in the direct bloodline of heirs can be appointed as Crown Prince and so that will open so many possibilities.
And as for Kim Yong Su coming home victorious, she said that she and Seol Won Rang has plans for that so they need not worry about it.
Princess Cheonmyeong was still unconvinced and was crying as she readies her husband’s armor. The King told her that he needs her support and further explained about Munno and the vision of the splitting of the Big Dipper from 7 stars to 8 and the special significance it has that coincided in her birth.
Kim Yong Su left for battle and that night Princess Cheonmyeong had another dream, more like a nightmare. She saw her husband being victorious but was taken down by an assassin.
Her nightmare came to a reality when news arrived and that they were victorious but unfortunately Kim Yong Su died. The soldier gave her the jade pendant that she placed in her husband’s war clothing. Apparently, Kim Yong Su’s last instruction was to give it back to her.
Right now, both Deok Man and Princess Cheonmyeong locked themselves in their rooms. Although, they are separated by thousand of miles away from each other, they share the same habit of tapping their fingers while thinking. Both are in mourning and depressed.
After a while, Deokman decided to go to Gyerim to find answers she was seeking all her life and her utmost mission was to find Munno. Cartan wanted her to just come with him to Rome as it is what she wanted all her life. It was quite touching for Cartan who went back and asked her for the second time to leave everything behind and come to Rome with him but she has already decided. Cartan just gave her some encouragement and advised her to dress up like a man so it would be easier and safer for her to travel.
Princess Cheonmyeong on the other hand, got another threat from Mi Shil at her husband’s memorial service/rites. Mi Shil told her to run away far away from the Palace and to forget about Munno’s vision of the 8th star and their delusional dreams. She said that it would be her last compassionate advice to her.
The princess then told her parents that she will enter the temple and just devote all her life to praying and to Buddha. Her parents were so shocked especially the King who feels that his last hope for his Kingdom is her daughter but she was determined to leave the palace.
Kim Yong Chu, her dead husband’s brother met her at the gate before she left and realized that it was just a cover up or a ruse to make them all believe that she was no longer interested in the throne or anything about the palace. She gave specific instructions to her brother in law to find Munno as quickly as possible. She said that if the prophesy or vision is correct, she’ll need all the help she can have to fight Mi Shil. She was also doing it to make sure that her child will be safe from Mi Shil. Apparently, she’s pregnant and she concealed it from everyone because she knew that it would be a dangerous place and time for her child.
A year had passed.
The princess has given birth to a son and Kim Yong Chu was able to learn Munno’s whereabouts. He told the Princess and so with a few guards provided by her brother in law, she left to find Munno dressed as a monk.
Unfortunately, Seol Won Rang learned of Kim Yong Chu’s secret activities. They learned that he was looking for Munno. Mi Shil was quite apprehensive when he learned about this. She has decided that they need to kill Munno so she can no longer feel fear of his presence or the significance of his presence.
Seol Won Rang dispatched his own son and some of his trusted Hwarangs to annihilate all the people in the temple and especially Munno.
This dangerous journey in finding Munno is where the two sisters will reconnect.
Deokman arrived in the Manno Fortress and was trying her best to find Munno’s whereabouts by asking around the city. The problem is that Munno has become some sort of legend or a myth and so she hears several stories about him and that he’s nowhere to be found.
